Johnnie Lou Evertson

April 6, 1942 — January 4, 2019

Johnnie Lou Everton was born on April 6th, 1942 south of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma the daughter of Chester and Hattie (Clayton) Edwards.  After enduring sickness with grace and courage, she went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 4th, 2019 in Tulsa Oklahoma.  She was 76.   

Lou grew up in Gore, Oklahoma and attended school there.  She graduated from high school in May, 1960.  Lou furthered her education attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  

In 1963 Lou started a career in education that spanned over 30 years.   Upon receiving her Master’s Degree, she served as Counselor and later was named Gore Elementary Principal.  She was a positive influence and loved making a difference in all her students’ lives. 

Lou will always be remembered as a wonderful mother and a loving devoted Nana.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.   She loved animals, enjoyed playing the piano, painting, and reading a good mystery.  She was an avid Oklahoma City Thunder fan and did her best not to miss any of the Thunder’s televised games.   Lou was a lifelong member of the Gore United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Shannon Dugger of Prosper, TX; two sons Shane Evertson and wife Chari of Tulsa, Stan Evertson and wife Megan of Argyle TX; one brother, Clayton Edwards and wife Rhonda of Muskogee; grandchildren Callie and Thomas Dugger of Prosper TX, Bailey Evertson of Magnolia TX, Morgan Travis of Tulsa; one niece, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Billy Edwards.

A celebration of Johnnie Lou’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the Gore Methodist Church in Gore, OK.
