John Kendall Blackburn

July 27, 1949 — June 27, 2017

John Kendall Blackburn, 67, died peacefully at his home in Tulsa on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. He was born July 27, 1949 to Gladys Louise (Patton) and John Homer Blackburn, Jr. He played football and graduated from McLain High School in Tulsa. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma State A&M College in Miami, OK and then Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK where he studied Hotel and Restaurant Management. He used his skill set to advance within the Ramada Inn and Sonic Drive-In companies.
John later worked for the Environmental Protection Agency collecting core samples from Iowa and South Dakota. He also, worked for Hemphill Construction, constructing cell phone towers. He later retired from Biz Jet International where he worked in engine maintenance, cleaning aerospace engines. Despite his battle with COPD, heart disease and cancer, he enjoyed life to the fullest. You could find him dropping a line and fishing the lakes and rivers all over Oklahoma. He looked forward to April, when the crappie would be biting. John traveled often, but was rather fond of Alaska. He was able to take a two month trip and fish the waters of Alaska, take a flight seeing tour over the Denali National Park, explore the wilderness and see the wildlife Alaska is noted for. He always had a story to tell about his adventure.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Louise (Patton) and John Homer Blackburn, Jr. and sister, Sandra K. McKone.
Survivors include daughters, Heather Clemmer of Maryville, Illinois, Christian Blackburn-Fitzgerald of Springdale, Arkansas; 6 grandsons; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; sister, Patricia Carden of Claremore, Oklahoma; cousin and close friend, Brent Smith of Owasso, Oklahoma; and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life. Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family, online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
