John Edwin Winter

John Edwin Winter age 78 passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his home with his wife, Peggy, and daughter, Laura, at his side shortly after being diagnosed with pancreas cancer.

On April 9, 1938 John was born in North Aurora, Illinois to Sidney and Margaret Glover Winter. John graduated from Earlville High School with the Class of 1957. He enlisted in the Air Force and continued his education at Lewis College where he earned his Aircraft and Power Plant license. He proudly worked as a mechanic, avionics mechanic, crew chief and inspector at American Airlines in St. Louis, Los Angeles and Tulsa for 34 years.

After meeting on a blind date, John and Peggy Compton were married for 48 years. They had one daughter, Dr. Laura Winter, Tyler, Texas.

John had many hobbies - one being a ham radio operator (W5AMR) for 50 plus years. He served several terms as American Airlines Radio Club president. He was a member of Mensa and an avid computer researcher. His first computer was a TRS80 and most recent was a Mac. John was a charter member of GloryLand Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK. and very active in its rebuilding. He was heard many times advising "radioers" "Don't be late for Sunday School." John enjoyed watching NASCAR races and hockey and football but extra special were the St. Louis Cardinals and Oklahoma City Thunder.

John is survived by his wife, Peggy, and daughter, Dr. Laura Winter, one brother, Dan Winter (Marian), Decatur, IL, nephew Jay Winter (Dave), niece Dr. Sarah Winter Ringle (Aaron), grandniece, Kathryn Ringle, other relatives, friends and acquaintances.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Jones Ridge Cemetery of Delaplaine in care of Donald Gillean at 1401 North Marr, Pocahontas, Arkansas 72455.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 8, at 11:00 a.m. at GloryLand Baptist Church,18610 East 91st Street, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (Phone: 918-806-6171).
