Joan Kay Wilson

March 28, 1941 — June 11, 2022

Joan Kay Wilson passed away with loving family by her side on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the age of 81 years. Joan was born on Friday, March 28, 1941, in Sapulpa, OK to her parents, Clarence and Mary (Piper) Blankenship.

She met the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Wilson, and they were married on February 13, 1971 in Paris, TX. Joan and Ken celebrated 48 years of marriage together until his passing on Friday, March 8, 2019. During those 48 years they raised a family, traveled 44 states together, loved to go camping, and made a lifetime of memories while having loads of fun with friends and family. While Ken and Joan lived in Hugo they owned a large 5 or 6 bedroom home-more than plenty of room for them. They would open their home to friends. One such friend, Jerry Lee Lewis and his bandmates would spend the night when they came through town while out on tour.

Kenneth and Joan went to EMT school and worked as a team for many years at the hospital. Joan also worked as a Supervisor for BIOS, assisting people with disabilities. Her main title to many: BOSS.

Joan loved to go garage-sale-ing, and always had her eye open for a good deal for herself or others. She enjoyed playing rook, moon (dominos), solving word find puzzles, surfing Facebook, talking on the phone, and socializing with her friends and family -loved to go to her brother Rick's auction. She was a great baker, known for her peanut butter cookies, homemade pancakes, chocolate cake, strawberry cake were just a few of the tasty treats she made. Family was most important to Joan, she loved to spend time with and take care of her family. Joan enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sports and school activities. Family gatherings were the best-great food and great fellowship. She was actively involved in her church and enjoyed going to church camp (for vacation). Marley, the dog, (Ken's pride and joy) and Joan have been inseparable since Ken's passing and became best friends.

Joan married longtime friend, Dan Simmons on August 24, 2021 in Tulsa, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth Wilson, brother, Richard Blankenship, sisters, Sandy Whittle, Jan Ramsey, Wanda Piper, granddaughter Chelsea Mitchell.

Joan leaves many loving memories with her family, husband, Dan Simmons; daughter Melinda Carpenter and husband Gary of Sulphur, OK, son Steve Mitchell of Ecuador, son Darron Wilson and wife Jamie of Morris, OK, grandchildren, Brittni Dalrymple and husband Dillon of Thomas, OK, Jay Southard and wife Sarai of Burleson, TX, Terra Paige and husband Cody of Stroud, OK, Kenny Wilson of Morris, Krista Ramerez and husband Adelino of Tushka, OK, Kendell Klemons of Texas, Isabella Mitchell, Steven Roy Mitchell of Durant, OK; great-grandchildren, Demian, Mariana, Hanna, Rori, Remy, Camille, Joshua; brother, Paul Blankenship and wife Lavon of Madison, TN; sisters, Bonnie Stoklasa and husband Frank of Choctaw, Barbara Jones of Sapulpa, OK, Betty Taylor of Mounds, OK, Vicki Blazek of Okmulgee, OK; sister-in-law, Marsha Blankenship of Kiefer, OK; brother-in-law Paul Ramsey of Okmulgee, OK; and many other loving family members and a host of friends.
