Jerry Roger Johnstone

Jerry R Johnstone, age 83, of Broken Arrow, OK, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in Tulsa, OK. Born on August 7, 1938, at Boone County Hospital in Boone, Jerry was the son of George (Bricky) and Ruby (Robinson) Johnstone. He was raised in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1956.

Jerry was united in marriage to Joyce Nelson on May 7, 1967, at the First Baptist Church in Boone. He worked for the Signal Department for Chicago Northwestern Railroad, currently known as the Union Pacific RR. He retired after over 40 years of service to the company. During this time, Jerry also served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

Jerry enjoyed golfing and was an animal lover. Jerry enjoyed playing poker with his buddies every Tuesday night. He was a member of Brotherhood of RR Signalmen as their financial secretary for many years, an American Legion member, Methodist Church, former Boone Golf & Country Club, and former Boone Elks member.

Throughout retirement, Jerry & Joyce enjoyed spending winters in Mission, TX. In Mission, TX he liked to travel down to Mexico and spend time with neighbors playing dominoes and cards. His ultimate favorite time was when he would tinker in the garage with his various knickknacks. His fondness of knickknacks extended to the backyard of his Tulsa home as he installed an official functional railroad Wig-wag. He had been to Alaska multiple times and all throughout the U.S. On Sundays, he enjoyed having dinner with Joyce, Jason, Jodie, Todd, Ally, and Lily.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce; daughter, Jodie and son-in-law Todd Stuckey of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren: Allison & Lily Stuckey of Broken Arrow and Jackson Johnstone of Coppell, TX; sisters-in-law Ann Johnstone of Columbia, MO & Irene Lee of Boone; and many nieces & nephews including Melissa (Bob) Barrett of Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Harold & Katherine Nelson, his son, Jason Johnstone; brothers Jim & George (Brick) Johnstone, sister-in-law Patricia Johnstone, sister-in-law & brother-in-law Mary Nelson Corhus & LuVerne Corhus & brother -in-law Gerald (Jake) Lee.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for the spring in Boone, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed Jerry's family, 5901 W Waco St, Broken Arrow, OK 74011, for a charity to be determined.
