Jeri Sue Potts

January 17, 1940 — March 24, 2023

Jeri Sue McLaughlin Dutton Potts

Born Jeri Sue McLaughlin, in Neodesha Kansas on Wednesday, January 17th, 1940, to Albert and Mildred McLaughlin. She left us Friday, March 24th, 2023.

Jeri Sue grew up in Arkansas City, Kansas, raised by her Grandmother Josephine Jackson (Grandma Jo) for a number of years. Her Mother moved her to Wichita when she was a teenager. She attended Wichita North High School, graduating in 1958. She attended Nursing School for a period of time after High School. Later attending Westark Community College in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to earn an Associates degree in Business.

Jeri Sue married Ronald Dutton in 1959 and had two sons, Kevin and Darren. After Ron's passing from cancer, she married Ronnie Potts in 1968, and became a second mother to his daughter, Sherie. Together they welcomed daughter Shannon, to create a most wonderful, blended family.

Jeri was the rock that held her family together through the many challenges life threw at her. She consistently demonstrated self-sacrifice for the good of her loved ones. She had a strong work ethic, believed in showing up every day and doing the best that you were capable of. She instilled these values in her children through words but mostly by example. She worked as a secretary for most of the first half of her life. At one point, in a small town in Nebraska, she was a bus driver and a secretary for the school. She began working for Home Depot in the 90's at the returns desk, later moving to the computer room vault area as a back-office associate. Eventually retiring from Home Depot.

The title of Grandma was her most favorite of all. She loved and cherished each of her Grandkids with her entire heart and was extremely proud of all of them. She was just weeks away from becoming a Great Grandma.

Jeri Sue was strong in her faith and was a faithful member of Asbury Church in Tulsa for over 40 years. She was active in her Church community and in the Home Improvement Ministry and had a large Church family of friends.

The last few years of her life she lived in a retirement community where she met great friends. They often enjoyed dog walks, front porch visits and "wine nights."

Jeri loved Nascar, her little Pepper dog and Pepsi. Recently, she had discovered how to operate audio books and that they could be checked out from the library. This was a life changing source of happiness for her, and she had a book playing on various devices most all of the time.

Jeri Sue blessed our lives with her love, kindness, laughter, never ending strength and her sassiness, she will be missed beyond measure.

Jeri Sue is survived by her sons, Kevin Dutton and wife Kristen, Darren Dutton and wife Shanna, daughters Sherie Beckman and Shannon Newby, grandchildren, Jacob Dutton, Joshua Dutton, Mackennzie Dutton and husband Douglas Bodenhamer, Cassidy Dutton, Dylan Beckman, Hannah Beckman, Ashlyn Newby, Haley Newby, Emily Newby and Molly Newby.
