Jean Lonzo Spradling

October 14, 1928 — September 28, 2013

Jean Spradling, 84, was born in Bixby, Oklahoma on October 14, 1928 and passed away on September 28, 2013. He was a proud Oklahoma A&M graduate and a Korean War veteran. Jean enjoyed a multitude of careers during his lifetime, most notably owning two restaurants in the Henryetta/Okmulgee area and owning/operating a water and sewer company in Wagoner County. He worked in the oil fields, sold Fuller Brushes, repaired elevators and ran a cleaning shop. His favorite pastime was always work, but travel was a close second, as he and his wife spent many happy months touring New Mexico and the southwest part of the United States. Jean was known for his dry wit, his incomparable chicken and dumplings, his propensity for arranging and attending family reunions (even attending some gatherings of complete strangers, introducing himself as a cousin or uncle and then bragging about it later) and most of all, a loving and generous heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lovena Spradling; his mother and father, Jess and Polly Spradling; and his sister, Sarah Spradling. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Pete Hall; his grandson and wife, Joe and Amy Hall; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Sam and Ella Hall. Jean will be deeply missed by his large extended family and many friends. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Okmulgee, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013, handled by Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the First United Methodist Church of Okmulgee, or the charity of your choice.
