Janie Lou Mulkey

January 11, 1943 — February 4, 2023

Janie Lou Mulkey gracefully passed away February 4th, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital under hospice care surrounded by her loving family.


She was born on January 11th, 1943 to Maxine and Russell Kolb in Evansville, Indiana. Her family moved to St. Louis where she was raised and graduated from Ritenour High School. She pursued a career in nursing at Barnes Hospital school of nursing. As a recovery room nurse at Normandy Hospital, she met an intern, James Cole Mulkey. They were married in 1969 and settled in Chesterfield, Missouri.


They had a daughter, Emilie Kolb Mulkey, and she devoted her time to being a loving mother and wife. She was a member of Bonhomme Presbyterian Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit which made her very popular in her frequent bridge games. She was an active volunteer in many charity organizations. They were members of Forest Hills Country Club where she was busy with tennis, golf, and bridge activities. Jane and Jim had several dogs throughout her life, and she adored all of them. Jane loved traveling to beaches, especially Kiawah Island, South Carolina.


In 2000, after their daughter Emilie married James Simon, Jim and Jane moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to be near Jane's sister Sue, her husband Bob and family. After some health complications they relocated to Colorado Springs to be near Emilie and family. In 2021 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.


In 2002, Jane became a grandmother, her most cherished and favorite role. Margo, Henry, Anna Catherine, and Caroline became the focus of her activities. Her zest for life and devotion to Jesus is evident through the values which she has passed on to them. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs and First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa. She will be greatly missed.


She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Mulkey, daughter Emilie Mulkey Simon, son-in-law James Simon, grandchildren Margo, Henry, Anna Catherine, and Caroline. Her sister Susan Spence, with husband Robert reside in Scottsdale. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Mary Watkins, brother-in-law Richard Mulkey, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A memorial service will be held May 20th in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa.
