Janice Isabelle Hollopeter

November 21, 1940 — February 26, 2023

A service and reception to honor and celebrate the life of Janice I. Hollopeter is scheduled for March 10, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Schaudt's Glenpool-Bixby Funeral Service, 1329 E. 151st St. Glenpool, Ok 74033.


Janice I Hollopeter of Tulsa Oklahoma was born 11-21-1940 in Toledo, Ohio. Janice passed away on Sunday 2-26-2023 at age 82 from surgery complications to remove a pulmonary embolism.


She is survived by her husband of 59 years Tom Hollopeter, her daughter Amy Hollopeter, her son Jay Hollopeter, his wife Shana Hollopeter, her grandchildren Ian Hollopeter, Lauren Hollopeter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and her sister Barbara Ann Wright of Warren, Ohio.


Janice was born in Toledo Ohio to Anna and William Tussing. She was the youngest of three sisters. She was a first generation American of Scottish immigrant parents.

As a young child she was encouraged and developed as a dancer and later became a dance instructor even dancing on tv. She was a graduate of the first class from Rogers High School in Toledo Ohio after which she attended the University of Toledo. Of note, she was homecoming queen her junior year and president of the Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated with a Bachelors of Education returning to Rogers high school as the first graduate to teach there in physical education. The following summer she married her University Sweetheart, Tom. As they started their life together and residing in Decatur Illinois they were blessed with the arrival of surprise and unexpected twins, Jay, and Amy.


They went on to a new adventure when Tom was hired to be plant engineer at a Firestone plant in Joliette Quebec, Canada. Tom and Janice were dedicated and committed to keeping the 17 member Anglican church a float in Joliette. Taking advantage of all Canada had to offer, Janice was a great cheerleader for the family's involvement in hockey and skiing.


The family then moved to Dayton, Ohio when Tom become plant manger at the Firestone plant. The family was then engaged in the Methodist Church in Dayton including Tom and Janice leading youth group and lots of other committees.


The family then re-located to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where the twins graduated high school. Janice also received a master's degree in Community Counseling. She was also manager of the family's Indoor Soccer Center. She and Tom continued to be greatly involved in the activities and mission at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Tom and Janice also became grandparents, two times over with the arrival of Jay and Shana's Children Ian and Lauren.


Janice and Tom then re-located to Siloam Springs Arkansas. Janice became a school counselor at Siloam Springs Middle school ending her career in education after serving there for 12 years. Upon retirement she taught monthly cooking classes at her home sharing her talent for gourmet cuisine. She also volunteered teaching weekly ESL classes to immigrants in the Siloam Springs area and worked at the homeless aid center. She and Tom were among the founding members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fayetteville Arkansas bringing the North American Lutheran Church to the Ozarks.

In 2022, Tom and Janice re-located to Tulsa Oklahoma to downsize and be closer to their children and family. They have been attending King of King Lutheran Church in Glenpool Oklahoma.


Tom and Janice shared many traveling adventures including five Canadian provinces, most of the States, including Hawaii, further traveling to Mexico, Brazil, Five European Countries including Paris for their thirtieth wedding anniversary. Their travels included a special trip to Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand.
