Hugh Oswald Mills

June 20, 1960 — February 5, 2019

Hugh Oswald Mills, “Ossie” to all, was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad to Ernest and Christine Mills on June 20, 1960. He was the youngest of the six siblings. Ossie went home to heaven on February 5, 2019, at the age of 58 due to sudden cardiac arrest.

Ossie was raised in Kingston, Jamaica along with his five siblings. As a teen, Ossie excelled as a goal keeper. After graduating from Wolmer Boys’ School, he joined the Oral Roberts University Division I soccer team. Ossie financed his undergraduate studies in part by sweeping ORU television studio’s floors. Ossie graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in communications and, in 2016, Ossie completed his Master’s Degree in Business.

From 1993 — 1997, Ossie was a vice president at INSP, a Christian television network where he helped produce award-winning gospel content. In 1997, he founded Belmont Mills, a company he built into a powerhouse production enterprise. During this time, Ossie became known broadly as a generational leader in media and production.

In 2011, Ossie transitioned to an executive leadership role with Oral Roberts University, the very University where he swept floors forty years earlier. During his eight-year tenure, Ossie led multiple initiatives, including Empower 21, and helped transform ORU into a global leader in Christian higher education.

In 2018, Ossie founded a faith based streaming company, tvChaz, where he served as CEO and creative genius. Ossie was a visionary and entrepreneur committed to bringing Christian media into the digital streaming age.

Ossie was a dedicated husband, loving father and magnanimous friend to all. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Mills, sons, Nick and Alex Mills, daughter-in-law, Olivia Mills, and siblings Jennifer (and Colin) Bent, Monica Moore, Sybil (and George) Belnavis, Osbourne Mills, sister in law Paulette Mills and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration honoring Ossie will be held at Oral Roberts University’s Christ Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ossie’s name to Convoy of Hope (www.convoyofhope.org), a non-profit relief organization close to Ossie’s heart.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
