Halim Farid Abufadil

April 9, 1935 — June 8, 2018

Halim Farid Abufadil passed away, Friday, June 8, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family. He was 83.

Halim was born on April 9, 1935 in Haifa, Palestine to Farid Habib and Olg (Manassa) Abufadil.

In the late 70's Halim and Mimi Abufadil, with their two young sons, Samer and Mazen, left Lebanon, fleeing civil conflict. That was one of the hardest decisions Halim has had to make. Living in the city, in his father's home, Halim had to make the decision to leave behind, not only his home country, but his father, the children's beloved grandfather, as they barely made it out of the country.

In the States, Mimi found employment, however, there was no work for Halim, who was a banker, by trade.

Mimi was a fine cook, and Halim was a talented businessman. Eventually, with an opportunity presented to them through the generosity of a dear friend, Alan Elias, the entire family found themselves at the register of the "Near East Bakery", in Brookside, rolling ham and cheese sandwiches and frying falafel.

For Tulsa, the rest is history, as they say, and through "Halim and Mimi's" which became established on 11th street, the words "Lebanese Food" were to remain on the tongues of Tulsans for over 30 years.

One could go through a greater history of the life of Halim Abufadil. His many travels, his "rambunctious" childhood, but instead he might best be remembered for the smile on his face when he saw his grandchildren; Halim adored them.

During retirement, he was diagnosed with a movement disorder, and within a short couple of years he became unable to walk and move freely, followed by difficulty in articulating his speech.

Yet, even up to the point when he could no longer swallow the food he was being fed, Halim's gentle smile shined through.

We are grateful to you, husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Farid Habib and Olga (Manassa) Abufadil and two siblings, Suad Manasseh and Habib Abufadil.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mimi Halim (Azar) Abufail; two sons, Samer Abufadil and his wife, Miyoko Muneyuki Abufadil and Mazen Abufadil and his wife, Masako Tanaka Abufadil; five grandchildren, Luka, Leo, Leif, Nikita, and Luna; one brother, Samir Abufadil and one sister, Mary Abufadil.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family, online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
