Francis Wayne Forest

July 18, 1954 — July 23, 2022

Francis Wayne Forest, Jr., age 68, (known as "Wayne" to his family and "Forest" to his friends) was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 18, 1954 to Elva Dell and Francis Wayne Forest. He left this world on July 23, 2022 in hospice care at his home following a cancer diagnosis sixteen days prior. But he will be remembered for the life he led which was filled with love and humor. He was a loyal and generous husband, father, brother and friend.

Wayne was the third of six children born into a military family. He had lived in New Mexico, Virginia, Massachusetts and Texas while growing up. As a young adult he lived briefly in Chicago before returning to Texas and eventually coming to Tulsa, OK where he had a rich life until his death. He began his career in Tulsa at Whitlock Automotive and moved into wholesale parts sales with Fred Jones (now United Ford of Tulsa) over 40 years ago until his retirement in 2020.

Wayne was an avid fan of movies, music and disc golf. Some people might tease him that he wasn't always discerning about the movies he loved and recommended. There were very few movies that he felt had no merit. But his musical taste was impeccable. He loved the music from the 70's and 80's and had a vast collection of CDs that he like to play loudly. He and his wife, Laurie, were constantly negotiating on the volume of his stereo at home and in the car. He began playing disc golf because "it is good exercise and cheap," and he became a well-known player in the community. He enjoyed casual play, tournament play and running tournaments. He was thrilled to participate in the PDGA World tournament in Kansas City. He also enjoyed float trips and camping in Missouri and his annual trek to the Indianapolis 500 race every May.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Laurie Davis-Forest and his three girls: Jeannie Lindstrom, Kaylee (Sam Washburn) Davis-Maddy, and Holly (Erick Hernandez) Forest. His siblings include Dabney Forest, Jackie (Randy) Kuehn, Terry Forest, Rick (Louise) Forest and Johnnie Forest. His cherished grandchildren are Chase Lindstrom, Courtny Lindstrom, Joshua Stepp, Jalynn Stepp, Morgan Lindstrom and Nora Maddy-Washburn. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a celebration of Wayne's life on July 30, 2022, 3:00pm at Schaudt's Funeral Chapel (5757 S. Memorial, Tulsa, OK). In lieu of flowers, Wayne's family would suggest donations to Happy Hands Education Center in Tulsa, OK. They provide educational services for deaf and hard of hearing children and help families navigate the new terrain of raising a deaf child. They were such a blessing to Wayne's family and for years Wayne ran a disc golf tournament to benefit Happy Hands.
