Forrest E. Reeves

Forrest Eugene (Gene) Reeves went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Saturday morning June 29, 2019, at 73 years of age after a sudden illness from leukemia. Gene was born on May 18, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to his parents, Harold and Ferne (Tillman) Reeves. Gene went to Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1964 as a member of the 25th graduating class. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in Chemical Engineering in 1969.

Gene worked at Southwestern Power Administration for 38 years in various positions, starting as a summer employee and becoming an engineer upon graduation. He worked 13 years as Branch Chief of Rates and Repayment, he received a promotion and was in charge of Corporate Operations. Gene finished his long career in 2007, at which time retired as the Chief Operating Officer. He and his wife Marcia also owned and operated a retail florist business, The Flower Cart, from 1977 until 1983. Gene served on the Board of Directors at Tulsa Federal Credit Union for over 46 years, holding leadership offices as Treasurer and Chairman for many of those years. He was a devoted member of Tulsa Bible Church and his faith was vitally important to him.

Gene was a talented vocalist who loved singing with various vocal groups and doing solo work. During the 1970s he sang with a traveling gospel group, The Living Truth, who performed in Tulsa and throughout the Midwest.

Gene loved sport, and played and coached throughout his life. He helped set up the CHEF girls’ basketball program and coached high school girls for 17 years. In 2003 they finished as National Champions. Gene also played baseball, softball, tennis, golf, volleyball, participated in Tulsa Runs, and loved snow skiing and loved the camaraderie of sports playing senior softball and golf until shortly before his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cynthia Ann (Cyndi) Reeves; and his 105 year old great-aunt Juanita Perkins. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Marcia, of their home; brother Steve Reeves of Raymore, MO; nephew Jason and wife KariLynn Reeves and grandnephews Zachary and Noah of Overland Park, KS; nephew Danny and wife Sahar Reeves of Santa Monica, CA; his aunt Irene Tillman of Talala, OK, and many cousins and their families. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Janet Miller of Dayton, OH, Sally Commentz and husband Mark of Monrovia, California, and Becky Hadler of Oklahoma City, OK; niece Nicole and husband Raymond Friend of Leesburg, OH and grandnephews Larkin and Griffin; nephew Zachary Miller of Fullerton, CA; nephew Travis Case of Dallas, TX; and niece MaryBeth and husband Mike Galvin of Oklahoma City, OK.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Schaudt’s Tulsa Funeral Service, 5757 S. Memorial Drive. Services will be held at Tulsa Bible Church, 5838 S. Sheridan on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Family burial will be in Argonia, KS.
