Elsie Lula Jones

Elsie Lula Jones, a lifelong resident of Okmulgee, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born February 23, 1925 to William Thomas and Mary (Jones) Thornburg in Beggs, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas Jones; parents, W.T. and Mary Thornburg; three sons, William Lee Hudson, Charles Wesley Jones and Thomas Dean Jones and numerous brothers and sisters. Survivors include her two daughters, Ida Marie Strain and husband, Jim of Tulsa and Rebecca Ann Coppenger and husband, Sam of Jenks; three sisters, Mary Glass of Tuscon, AZ, Leda Faye McElhaney of Okmulgee, Rosey Smock of Okmulgee and other sisters; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Stuart. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee with Dr. Dennis Taylor officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Jim Strain, Duane Strain, Jimmy Strain, Sammy Coppenger, Robert Kennedy and Billy Hudson.
