Ellanore Isabell McIntosh Alexander
Beloved mother and grandmother, Ellanore Alexander, a resident of Okmulgee passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at age 97 in the Parks Edge Nursing Center of Tulsa with loving family at her bedside. She was born May 29, 1919 in the rural Lawton area of Letitia to Ralph Vannice and Issey Ellender (Howard) McIntosh. The oldest of six children she was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Geraldine Lucile “Gerry” McIntosh Stewart, Patricia Ann “Sally” McIntosh Wicker, Jack Joe McIntosh, and Ralph Elijah “Mack” McIntosh, and her adored husband of 47 years Emmit Calvin Alexander Sr.
Ellanore attended Lawton’s Cameron Junior College and Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater pursuing a journalism degree. She married Emmit April 4, 1942 and settled in the Okmulgee area in 1947 on their “North Forty” acre farm. Their three sons had the honor of mom being involved in their scouting, band, football, and 4-H experiences. She was known for nursing her four men back to health through many scraps, broken bones and crisis.
From 1960 till her retirement in June 1979, Ellanore returned to work in the Agricultural Administration and Soil Conservation Department. Retirement years freed her to travel with the First Baptist Choral and Be Active Live Longer groups. She and Emmit traveled the country researching genealogy records and have volumes of documentation.
The character values of truth, honesty, faith, honor, trust, and love were exemplified in the way Ellanore lived her life and those same values were instilled in the legacy she leaves behind through her surviving family. Ellanore was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by sons: Emmit Calvin Alexander, Jr (Sheri) of Minneapolis, MN, Leeland Neill Alexander (Diana) of Tulsa, and Billy Ray Alexander (Kathleen) of Bartlesville.
