Elbert Hiebert

June 6, 1931 — September 19, 2021

Bert Hiebert (Elbert), of Jenks, OK passed into the presence of His Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Born June 6, 1931 near Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Canada, to Abram and Anna (Martens) Hiebert, Bert was the youngest of their 17 children. He attended a one room school in the Grosweide School District, graduated from Briercrest Bible Institute at Caronport, Saskatchewan in 1952 and earned his degree in voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada in 1966. He was married to Doris Buhler in July 1954 until her passing. They had three sons, Charles David, Gerald Wayne and Donald James. In 1981, he wed Georgeann (Smart) Hiebert.

Bert spent most of his adult life in ministry, beginning with Child Evangelism Fellowship. He then devoted 27 years at his alma matter, Briercrest, as a voice teacher, leading the radio choir, public relations, and finally as Alumni Director. He served as Alumni Director at Calvary Bible College for one year and Scripture Press Publications for 12 years, calling on churches and Christian bookstores in a 12-state area. During this time, he also taught Sunday School and was involved in music ministry, starting the first choir at Tulsa Bible Church. He taught Sunday School or led the congregational singing in most every church he attended. He also served as an elder and on various church committees. He finished his working career in the financial services industry.

He was predeceased by seven siblings before his birth, his next oldest brother, Art at age 9, his parents, Doris, the wife of his youth, and the remainder of his siblings and their spouses, Ed (Gertie), Mary (Henry), Ernie (Lena), Arnold (Ann/Helen), Edna (Andy), Dorothy (Bill), Linda (Henry), Esther (George).

He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Georgeann (Smart), of the home; sons Dave (Bekki), of Livelong, Saskatchewan, Jerry (Edie), of Red Deer, Alberta and Don (Stacey), of Norman, Oklahoma. Five grandchildren: Tim (Jodi Lynn) Hiebert, and Rebecca (Chris) Bennett, of Calgary, Alberta; Jessica Hiebert, of Edmonton, Alberta; Blake Hiebert and Mackenzie Hiebert, of Norman, Oklahoma; 3 great-grandchildren: Eliana and Ethan Hiebert and Chloe Bennett, all of Calgary, Alberta, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, former students and friends across Canada and the United States.


A memorial service honoring his life will be held 10:00am Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at South Tulsa Baptist Church, 10310 S. Sheridan Ave., Tulsa, OK
