Elaine Ann Benson

March 11, 1949 — August 20, 2021

Elaine Ann (Douglas) Hefley Benson passed from this earth into the arms of her heavenly Father in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday, August 20th, 2021, at the age of 72 after a courageous battle against ovarian cancer.

Elaine was born on March 11, 1949, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the second of three daughters born to Merle and Clara (Hudspeth) Douglas. She moved with her family to Tulsa, OK in 1952.

Elaine graduated from Tulsa's Central High School, where she met and married David Hefley in 1967; they were married for 22 years and had two sons, Darren and Jason. Elaine had a long career in Property Management, working for various companies over the years and up to the weeks preceding her passing.

Elaine was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She was always put together in stylish clothes with perfect hair and makeup. She was known to keep a beautiful home and was an amazing cook and baker. She was a working woman but would come home every evening and cook a delicious, hearty, homecooked meal for her family. At Christmas time, Elaine would spend days baking her specialties like 3-layer Italian cream cake, divinity, fudge, cookies, cheesecake and pies with sky high meringue. There were enough deserts and treats to feed an army, but she wanted to make sure everyone had their favorite.

Elaine loved her family and friends dearly. A birthday, holiday or special occasion never passed without Elaine sending a card or a personal gift to show her love. She loved making special cupcakes, goodie bags and care packages for her three grandchildren, Aiden, Jenna, and Andrew, and they loved getting Nana's special treats. Elaine was most proud of her boys, Darren and Jason. She always said they were the one thing she did right. She would beam with pride when she spoke about them and their accomplishments, how smart and strong they were, and what fine families they had. Even though Darren and Jason are both in their fifties, Elaine never stopped being Momma to them, always checking in to ask about their jobs, their health, and what was new in their lives.

Elaine found love again when she met Ed Benson. Elaine and Ed married in 2015 and moved to Collinsville, Oklahoma, where they enjoyed sitting on the patio together, planting flowers and playing with their dogs.

Elaine is survived by her sister Sharon Ryan, her husband Ed Benson, her sons Darren and Jason, their spouses Angie and Melissa, and her grandchildren Aiden (17), Jenna (15), and Andrew (12).

Elaine's family wishes to thank Compassus Hospice and Porta Caeli House for their kindness and care of Elaine during her last days. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Porta Caeli House. They cared for Mom and her family with the utmost love and compassion to the very end. https://portacaeli.org/support-our-work
