Funeral services for Edwin S. (Sonny) Moore, Jr., will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Big Cussetah Methodist Church in Morris, Oklahoma with Pastor Royce Wittman officiating. Sonny will be laid to rest at Morris Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 12, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schaudt’s Funeral Home in Glenpool, Oklahoma. Pall bearers will be grandsons, Derrick Moore, Dalton Summers, Rogan Summers and Dakota Moore.

Ed was born on May 6, 1940 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Edwin S. and Sallie (Beaver) Moore. He was the first baby born in the Stillwater hospital.

He attended Tahlequah Public Schools and was a proud graduate of the class of 1958. He later graduated Oklahoma State University in 1964 where he earned a Bachelor of Science, and a Master’s in Education from OSU in 1989.

He was active in football at Tahlequah high school and played college football at Oklahoma State University following in the footsteps of his father.

He loved playing and coaching football. His career begin in Ringling, Oklahoma before moving to Ft. Sill Indian School at Lawton, Oklahoma, Hayes, Montana and subsequently returning to Oklahoma coaching football, track, basketball, and baseball at Paoli, Pawnee, Sperry and Tulsa Central. He was a member of the Oklahoma Coaches Association.

Ed loved teaching science and made a profound difference in the classroom. During his coaching and teaching career, he impacted the lives of many students by instilling values, confidence, hard work, and the importance of education.

He was a proud citizen of the Muskogee Creek Nation. He served on the National Council for four years and was employed at Creek Nation in the Housing Division for several years. He and his wife, Linda, served as coaches for the Creek Nations Girls Team. They traveled to Denver in the summer to participate in the Native American West Division where the team won seven division championships and one co-championship. He served as a teacher, coach, and mentor for many Native American boys and girls throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home. Three children James Moore and Greg Moore of Lawrence Kansas, Rodney Moore and wife Ruby of San Antonio, Texas, Michael Laudermilk of Kellyville, Oklahoma and Marci Moore of Riverton, Wyoming, Samantha Beams Summers of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Melanie Moore and husband Max of Sperry, Oklahoma. Five grandchildren; Derrick Moore of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, Dalton Summers of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Rogan Summers of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Dakota Moore, Sperry Oklahoma and Aspen Moore, Sperry, Oklahoma. One brother, Buddy Moore and wife Bea of Cushing, Oklahoma, and one sister Kelly Moore Wilson and husband, John, of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Sallie Moore and brother, David “Punk” Moore.

He cherished his Beaver family and the “Beaver girls”who provided him with laughter throughout his life.

His grandchildren brought him so much happiness during his lifetime. He never missed a football, baseball, basketball, soccer game or track meet. He was very proud of them and their athletic accomplishments. Most of all, he was proud to be their “Pops.” The name Pops was passed along to their friends, families and to others in his life.

He cherished his family which provided him a pillar of strength during his illness. Their presence, love and hugs always made his heart happy and give him to strength to live. He will be missed , but his memory will live on.
