Donald Max Flynn

September 14, 1934 — April 14, 2010

Don M. Flynn age 75 died in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Johns Medical Center on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma of complications from a fall on the ice December 27, 2009.
Don was born in Durant, Oklahoma. His formative years were spent in Tyler, Texas where he excelled in all sports, especially football. Lettering in basketball, baseball and football during his high school years he was awarded the "Most Valuable Football Player" trophy his senior year at Tyler High School.
At the University of Houston where he received a football scholarship, he continued to be a stellar athlete and was, once again, selected "Most Valuable Football Player" his senior year as well as receiving Honorable Mention for All-American Quarterback in 1957. After completing his education with a BS degree in petroleum engineering and geology, he continued his football career in professional leagues in both Canada with the Edmonton Eskimos, and the United States with the Dallas Texans (later the Kansas City Chiefs) and the New York Titans (later the New York Jets). Don entered the oil and gas business as a young petroleum engineer with Skelly Oil in Duncan and Tulsa. He later joined White Shield Oil and Gas Company also in Tulsa. Subsequently in 1972 he formed Flynn Energy Corp., an oil and gas exploration and production firm, which was sold in 1978. The second Flynn Energy Corp. was established at that time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one granddaughter.
Don is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Patricia Flynn; his three sons: Brett Flynn of Los Angeles; Don Flynn and his wife, Trish of Broken Arrow and their daughters: Lindsay of Broken Arrow, Mallory Hodges and her husband, Phil of Lawton, Oklahoma; Michael Flynn and his daughter, Rebecca of Tulsa; one daughter, Kelly Wright and her daughter, Samantha of Tulsa. Other surviving family members are his sister, Janet Woodard and her husband, Larry of Duncan; his sister in-law, Ann Flynn of Austin, Texas; his brother: David Flynn and his wife, Jill of Tulsa as well as numberous nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances.
Paramount in his life were love of his family, his Christian faith, competitive sports, country-western music and regard and concern for this exceptional country. Don was descended from five great grandfathers who fought in the American Revolution to help found our great nation. Like his mother before him, the term fear was not in his vocabulary. He was indeed fearless on the gridiron as well as in the boardroom. May God rest his generous and loyal soul and welcome him into eternal Christian fellowship.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at Woodland Acres Baptist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C. Schaudt of Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service & Cremation Care. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com
