Charles E. Sutter

February 6, 1933 — December 20, 2017

A Funeral Service honoring the life of U.S. Navy veteran, Charles E. Sutter, Sr. was held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Kim Hayes officiating. He was 84.

Charles passed away the morning of Wednesday, December 20, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 6, 1933 at home in Carthage, MO to Mary (Deshong) and Oren Lavern Sutter.

Charles grew up in Tulsa and entered in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country on the island of Guam during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Ina Belle Sutter, upon his separation from the military. Boastfully, he told his new bride after their wedding, “stick with me baby, I’ll get you an indoor toilet, I promise”. They were married 55 years through ups and downs, thick and thin. He is a proud graduate of the University of Tulsa, class of '64; graduating with a double bachelor's degree in Business and Economics, after attending night classes for nine years.

Charles went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1958 starting out as a door to door bill collector in the Greenwood district of North-Central Tulsa. His starting salary was $35 per week. At the time of his retirement in December 1991, he had risen to the level of Division head, manager of Rates and Tariffs. After retirement, he worked as a volunteer and most enjoyed woodwork and building things with his hands. His father Oren (O.L. “Jack”) Sutter instilled a lifelong love of fishing that took him to chase fish as far away as Canada. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ina Belle Sutter; parents, Mary and Oren Lavern Sutter; siblings, Melvin Sutter and Anna Beth Sutter.

Survivors include his sons, Chad Sutter and Susan Vail, Kevin Sutter and Lana Evans, Charles Sutter, Jr.; grandson, Jason Sutter and wife, Samantha; granddaughter, Bethany Peterson and husband, Matt; great-granddaughters, Avery Sutter, Meadow Peterson, Ember Peterson, and Haven Peterson; Nephews, Roger McCollum, Audie Murphy McCollum, and Denham McCollum; Nephew Wayne Sutter; Niece Donna Conn and husband Steve; many other family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
