Billy Clyde McClain passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family. He was 69.

Bill was born June 10, 1948 in Snyder, Texas where he grew up. He was the son of Jessie Mae (Roberson) McClain and Ozzie McClain and was one of 14 children . In May 1966, Bill graduated from Snyder High School.

After graduation Bill continued his education at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas where he met the love of his life, Oza Mae (McGill) McClain in 1968. On December 21, 1969 they got married in Mt. Pleasant, Texas and started their life together.

In 1972, Bill and Oza moved to Kansas City, Kansas until 1979 when they made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

While he was in Kansas, Bill was trained to be a respiratory therapist at Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City but then went on to work for the railroad in June of 1973. He was employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe until he retired in 2003.

Since 1980 he was a member at Christ Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Tulsa. He was very active in the church as an usher, custodian and a recording steward.

Bill loved to play competitive tennis and was a member of the Gilcrease Hills Tennis Club. He also enjoyed finding arrow heads and other artifacts with his metal detector and fishing at the Keystone lake or Mohawk reservoir. Bill loved to collect things, especially coins and antique medicine bottles. He had a loving and friendly soul. He was very outgoing, had many friends and was always willing to help people. Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Mae (Roberson) McClain and Ozzie McClain; brothers, L.S. McClain, Wade Garrett and O'Neal McClain; and sisters, Estell Houston, Jessie F. Asberry, and Thelma Vine.

Survivors include his loving wife, Oza (McGill) McClain; son, Julian McClain and his wife, Tamitra; daughter, Julia McClain-Newsome; grandchildren, Dorian, Eryka, Erin, Brittney, Azia, Criston, Erica, Ellijah, Nathan, Juliann and Carrie; and two great-grandsons, Ashton and Langston. He is also survived by four brothers, Jerry McClain, Terry McClain, Kenneth McClain and Edward McClain; and three sisters, Easter Smith, Gladys Wells and Bessie Perkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Billy McClain to Christ Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Benevolent Fund or the American Red Cross.
