Beverly Jean Barton

June 11, 1930 — August 9, 2017

Beverly Jean Barton was the daughter of Leonard B. (Casey) and Bertha M.M. Jones. They owned and operated Hotel Central that burned in 1939, which they rebuilt as the Del Royce Hotel in Buffalo, Oklahoma. She was born on June 11, 1930 and passed away August 9, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Beverly attended Buffalo Public Schools and graduated from the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Beverly married Max E. Barton of Selmon, Oklahoma in 1950 and moved to Enid where they raised their five children. Beverly taught in the Enid Public Schools for several years until she left to focus full time on her family. Later, Beverly would return to school for herself where she earned her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Phillips University in Enid. She moved to Tulsa in 2008 to be near her family.
Beverly and Max were charter members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Enid. She was also a member of P.E.O. International, a women’s organization. Beverly enjoyed traveling with her late-husband Max, who was President of Groendyke Transport, Inc. and of course had her hands full raising five children. She was admired for her grace and compassion for others. She was always ready to help others and volunteer every chance she could. Beverly and Max loved to volunteer at Cimarron Montessori School reading with the children each week. Beverly was very passionate about teaching children to read and was one of her favorite things to do. She greatly benefited from her experience at the Pathway Core Training program and wished many others would do the same. Beverly also enjoyed being a leader for the Bluebirds and Campfire girls clubs.
Her husband, Max, (whom she was married to for 56 years), her parents, sister Joyce Clark of Shawnee, Ok, and her oldest son, Bruce L Barton of Tulsa, preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons and one daughter. Brent Barton and his wife Debbie, Keller, Texas, Brad Barton and his wife Mary Lou, Bixby, OK, Tracy Nicholas and her husband Jeff, Little Rock, AR, Eric Barton and husband Greg Nagel, Washington, DC, and Nancy Barton, daughter in-law, Tulsa, OK.
