Armel was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Mildred and Wendell Farmer Baker, her husband, Wallace Colvert McVay, and her brother, Wendell F. Baker, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Robert Claflin Baker, her children; Luanne McVay Fairless of Sand Springs, OK; Coleman Ross McVay of Mounds, OK; Wyatt Claflin McVay (Claire) of Chattanooga, TN; Mary Ann Wright (Roger) of Mounds, OK; Sarah Jane Smith (Garry) of Tulsa, OK; and Jeffery Ray McVay of Jenks, OK. Armel faced many challenges in her life, but her faith in God never wavered. She was a strong and independent woman who raised six children on her own and made each of them feel loved and safe. She was an avid sports fan and loved living in the country, which was her lifelong dream. When she wasn’t keeping up with all her grandchildren and their busy lives, you could find her in her yard and garden, with all of her plants and flowers. Armel will be remembered for her profound faith in God, her independent spirit, and her love for her children. She will be missed dearly by the many lives that she touched.
