Alwilda B Murphy

Alwilda Blanche Murphy (Johnson), age 92, died November 18, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born March 10, 1927, in Masontown, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of David Ray and Eliza Ann Johnson. After graduating from German Township High School, she lived in Washington D.C. where she worked as a Cryptographic Clerk at the U.S. Army Security Agency in Arlington, Virginia, during the victory over Japan.

In 1946, she moved to Dallas, Texas, and was a homemaker after the war. After many years there, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, after the passing of her husband Max in 2007. They were married for 43 loving years.

Although she became a “Texan” by location and pride, she spoke of and held pleasant memories of her youth and family roots in Pennsylvania. Nicknamed “Toots”, she loved her family there dearly. She was the youngest of four daughters, and after the death of her mother in 1938, she was raised and cared for by her older sisters and hard-working father. Her summers were spent joyfully along the shores of Deep Creek Lake in Maryland.

Alwilda is preceded in death by her husband, Max, and three sisters, Pauline, Jane, and Ruth. She is survived by her children Gary Strawn (Jane), Beverly Cruzan, David Strawn (Diane), and Michael Murphy (Leslie), and generations of grandchildren and great grandchildren who always brought a warmth to her heart and a smile to her face.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by Sharon Ronk and the staff at RoseRock Healthcare during the final years of Alwilda’s life on earth.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church Chapel, 813 15th Street, Plano, Texas, on Saturday, December 28 at 1 p.m.
