After receiving his degree from Northeastern, Al moved to Germany where he taught for 4 years. Al loved to travel and took advantage of his time in Europe to tour the continent extensively, driving the autobahn, tasting wine and enjoying his surroundings.

On July 25th, 1973 he married the love of his life, Cheryl Burris in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Al and Sherry spent the 70's and 80's raising their three children Jeff, Jenni and Jill. While in Phoenix, Al took up golfing and crafting golf clubs. He made several sets of clubs for his family and friends. Al achieved two hole in ones over his lifetime.

Al retired in 2003 and their love of family and grandchildren drew he and Sherry back to Bixby. The move back to Bixby started a new chapter in Al's life, He gained the title of “Papa” and set out to spoil his 7 grandchildren Allison, Maggie, Luke, Trent, Evie, Lily and Jake.

Al's love of family led him to purchase a house at Lake Hudson. Al loved spending his free time at the lake, enjoying the quiet, feeding the birds on his porch and of course fishing.

Through out his life Al Houser genuinely enjoyed people, he was a great listener, a great talker and a great friend.
