Lucille B. Slack

Lucille B. Slack, 101, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, at her home in Tulsa. Lucille was born June 17, 1915, in Stigler, OK to Eula (Hughes) and Robert Matison Brewer. Lucille grew up in Dover, Arkansas and played basketball throughout her years while attending high school and graduating in Russellville.

Lucille married James Norval Slack, August 20, 1936, in Tulsa. James preceded her in death on June 15, 1978. Jim and Lucille spent much of their free time square dancing with the Buckaroo Square Dancing Club and attending conventions throughout Oklahoma. Another fascinating hobby was “rockhounding” with the Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society. Whether hunting for desert roses in Oklahoma or fossilized dinosaur bone in Utah or rock formations throughout the West, Jim and Lucille greatly appreciated the wonders nature bestowed on our great land.

Lucille’s demonstrated her deep love for children - not just her own - by her service as a “home room” mom, leading a Cub Scout Pack and Girl Scout Troop, running the school’s chili dinners, serving as a PTA officer, and helping out however she could with jr. baseball and golf. Later Lucille worked in her precinct’s polling place for many years, and canvassed Tulsa for the 1960 United States Federal Census. She and Jim resumed their travels after retirement and also throughout the world with her sister Norma.

Lucille joined First United Methodist Church in 1976 and became a devoted member of the Circle Class, participated in the United Methodist Women circles, worked in the church office, and - among her fondest memories - sang with the Melodears, a choir for seniors who took music and God’s love to seniors throughout Tulsa.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Norval Slack; and sisters: Norma Larsen and Irene Bowers. She is survived by her daughter, Nakita Lucille Moffitt and husband, Lyle of Tulsa, OK; son, Jerry Norval Slack and wife, Anita (Bahle) of Broken Arrow, OK; four grandchildren: Bram Moffitt and wife, Courtney of Sand Springs, OK; Tara (Moffitt) Gordon and husband David, of Tulsa, OK; Cort Moffitt of Tulsa, OK; David Slack of Salem, OR; and five great-grandchildren: Ashton and Ethan Gordon, Emerson Moffitt, and Dylanne and Marleigh Slack.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service, Tulsa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Tulsa.
