Chester "Chet" Whitetree

August 2, 1942 — October 11, 2016

Chester Arthur Whitetree, son of Ernest and Mary (Hubbard) Whitetree passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born August 2, 1942 in Claremore, Oklahoma. Chet attended Haskell Institute and was a Iron Worker in the Steel Industry. During Chet's lifetime he had a hand in building many structures across the United States.

He loved horses and in his younger days rode horseback to the council house. Chet loved to play pool and took Oklahoma State Championship and also attended the National Pool Champion in Hollywood, Florida. He also loved hunting especially squirrel, deer and duck and loved to motorcycle. He was an avid watcher of golf and football and loved reading all kinds of books. Chet was a "Golden Glove" Boxer.

Chet loved his family and would often offer words of wisdom. He was a proud member of the Seneca-Cayuga tribe of Oklahoma and proud to carry on the legacy of his Iroquois heritage. Chet was a fearless "skywalker", until his failing health forced him into retirement. Chet stayed close to the mother of his children, Virginia Whitetree, they were still very good friends and spent holidays together as a family.

Chet is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Whitetree; granddaughter, Sheena Harjo; brothers: Richard and Charles; sisters: Vivian, Rose, Betty, Louise and Esther. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Whitetree; son, Ronnie Whitetree and his wife, Gina Wesley; daughter, Bernadette Whitetree and her husband, Stephen Harjo; stepson, Oso Avendano and his wife, Kristina; stepdaughter, Rachel Avendano and her husband, Craig Vaughn; stepson, Thomas Avendano and his wife Imelda Galvez; stepdaughter, Kathalena Toddy and her husband Melvin; brother, Thomas Whitetree; six grandchildren; thirteen step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; Donna Piper, whom was like a daughter and Godson; a very close friend,Trevor McGirt, son of Brian and Christie McGirt, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Sunday, October 16, 2016 and a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 17, 2016 both at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service in Tulsa. Burial will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2016 at Bassett Grove Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
